My first child is getting his first Christmas this year, and my wife and I are quite conflicted about Santa Claus. This meant a lot to me.Syphaxhttp://valueofsaintliness.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461918020713520686.post-21169295790190776802011-12-12T11:20:42.102-08:002011-12-12T11:20:42.102-08:00Thanks so much for sharing! I always felt that...That is such a beautiful story! I always felt that somehow the tradition of Santa bringing gifts was religiously symbolic of God sending His Son to the world, as the ultimate gift. I didn't know about St Nicholas's historical background in Christianity.

In our house, Santa is basically a glorified mailman, delivering gifts from family members. Our family rule is when you can "correctly" describe what Santa looks like to mom or dad (aka-short, brown hair & glasses, drives a minivan, etc.), you get to stay up and help Santa w/ the presents! This helps the older kids who have learned the "truth" about Santa feel the REAL excitement of giving to and serving other people.J Voglerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09525101172191499993noreply@blogger.com
