Isaac Asimov (January 2, 1920 ~ April 6, 1992)--one of the founding godfathers of modern science fiction, and the genius who gave us the Three Laws of Robotics (plus the Zeroeth Law). After reading his autobiographies, I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed hanging out and having a beer with him, but he was formative for me, nonetheless.
Maud Hart Lovelace (April 25, 1892 ~ March 11, 1980)--I discovered Lovelace's Betsy, Tacy, and Tib as an adult, but they carried me through some of my most harrowing times.
L.M. Montgomery (November 23, 1874 ~ April 24, 1942)--So many of my greatest memories I owe to this creator of the Anne of Green Gables series.
