Regency and Victorian Reading Challenge

For those who read my first "In My Inbox" post, you know that I am simply swamped right now with books about that iconic Victorian character, Sherlock Holmes, and now I discover that somebody's going to give me credit in a reading challenge for reading them.  Hooray for Royal Reviews!  What is much less commonly known, and I admit it to my shame, is that there are two novels in the standard Jane Austen canon which I have never yet read, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.  Since my copies of these Jane Austen novels ALSO meet the requirements of my "Read Your OWN Library! Challenge", this is an entirely win-win situation for me, and I'm pretty excited about it.

I have decided to join the challenge at the Princess level, meaning I am required to read 8 books that fall within the given parameters between now and March 1, 2012.  I TOLD you I have a lot of Sherlock Holmes to read!

If all goes according to plan, I'll be reading the following:

By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle--

-A Study in Scarlet
-The Sign of Four
-The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
-The Hound of the Baskervilles

By Jane Austen--

-Mansfield Park

UPDATE (December 16, 2011):

By Charles Dickens--

-The Chimes
-The Cricket on the Hearth

Since I chose three books from this period for the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge, I decided to overlap these two challenges, to give myself a little more breathing room so I don't get completely bogged down.

  1. Good luck on your to-read pile! You now also have a new follower :) oh, and I think the Dorothy Parker award is hilarious! There have been quite a few books that I've just wanted to throw violently (preferably towards the author) and this seems a good enough substitute for the time being!

  3. If you wanted to get double-credit for reading Holmes, you could also join the Baker Street Challenge (http://bakerstreetchallenge.blogspot.com/)

I love me some good Victorian and Regency books! I finished Northanger Abbey this year as well.
